2008-2009 ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE WOMENS BASKETBALL
The University of Alabama Crimson Tide womens basketball team has enjoyed some success over the years since its first season in 1974. However, the Lady Tide B-baller's have yet to win any championship titles.
The Alabama women's basketball team just is not very competitive in the SEC. The Lady Tide does fine out of conference. But, against SEC competition, Alabama has gone 1-28 over the past 2 seasons. Under the guidance of head coach Wendell Hudson, the Alabama Crimson Tide women's basketball team faces another tough year.
The team went to NCAA final four in 1994, but still has had no major titles in the SEC. Last season, they were dead last in the SEC-West and in the SEC overall, and were unable to win any games in the SEC. They seemed to be still acclimating to their new coach and struggling to adjust to various position changes to try and find their niche. Despite their poor showing, the team was able to make it to the SEC tournament but lost to Ole Miss in the first round 78-49.

The Alabama Crimson Tide Womens Basketball team had seven newcomers join the team last season and those additions should help the team improve this year after having a year to acclimate to the team. The Tide is only returning one senior, Nathalie Reshard, this year which may hurt their chances.
Junior guard Camilla Blands should bring her experience and skill to the court to have an impact on the game this season, although it seems that the Lady Tide's lack of experienced players may hurt their chances of winning games this season. Coach Smith seems hopeful that her team will be able to practice hard enough to place higher in the rankings than last season, but it is unlikely that they will see more improve from last season.
In the preseason, the Lady Tide have been keeping busy with rigorous training regimens in hopes of putting some W's on their score sheet.
The Tide is seeing some changes to the coaching staff this year after Valecia Tedder was named as the new women's basketball director of operations. Tedder will be joining the team after being on staff at Coach Smith's former team Middle Tennessee. She will be replacing Ashley McElhiney who took the assistant coaching position at Tennessee Chattanooga.
Some past players are making headlines recently with former Lady Tide player Navonda Moore has made it big as she was named on the roster for the WNBA team the Minnesota Lynx after being drafted last April. The Lady Tide will kick off the 2007-2008 season on October 31 when they play West Alabama at home.
