Week Six SEC Baseball Power Poll Rankings
My view from the outfield bleachers…..
The biggest league match-up last week was #4 South Carolina visiting the #1 ranked Florida Gators for a three game series. The Gamecocks got the bats rolling in the first game and won going away 9-2. On Saturday, Florida slowed those bats down with solid pitching and took a 2-1 victory to even the series. The third game on Sunday saw the Gamecocks squeak out a 4-3 win and take the series against the Gators.
It was a really good series and I’m sure we will see both teams battle against each other again down the road in tournament play. #2 ranked Vanderbilt handled #13 Arkansas at home two games to one by only allowing the Hogs to score 4 total runs the entire series. If the Commodores pitching staff is able to hold up, they will be hard to beat the rest of the way. Mississippi State is playing well also sweeping Auburn at home over the weekend.
Alabama has gotten themselves back in the top 25 by sweeping Kentucky at home. Georgia is going to be a wildcard this season, They are so up and down and you are never really sure which team is going to show up when you face them. Overall they are 11-13, but they are 5-6 verses top 15 ranked teams this season. They took two of three games from the slumping #16 ranked LSU Tigers last weekend as the Tigers are now just 1-5 in SEC play and find themselves in a deep hole to start comference play. There is still a ton of ball to be played and maybe the Tigers will be able to bounce back in time to win the SEC West. We will all stay tuned and see…….
