Tam Childress Biography

The Texas A&M baseball team joins a red hot SEC league that will show many challenges. No coach would be more ready for the task than Rob Childress who is going into his seventh season there. This coach is a pitching guru. He loves to help with the pitchers and make those types of decisions. They were second in the former conference, that we dare not mention, in earned run average each of his six seasons. They were the best team in league play last Spring.

He got the team to it's 5th straight trip to Omaha last year a record for the Aggies. He simply knows baseball and wins. The SEC is in for a rude awakening, for Texas A&M is here and ready to take some people to the wood shed. They will out pitch and out smart you because of the coaching of Childress. He was the Big 12 coach of the year. The teams won it's 23rd conference championship.

The pitching got them there and they were 14th in the nation with a 2.9 earned run average. Childress had 3 players who were named to the All-American team and also had Naquin who was Big 12 Player of the Year. The freshman outfielder Krey Bratsern was named to the Freshman All-America team.

The team that is here last years has a lot of returners and they got to the 40 win mark last year for the 40 win mark for the fourth time in the last five years. The team was first in the conference and second nationally with 9.3 strikeouts per 9 innings. They had an amazing 612 strikeouts which was a school record and blew the old mark of 568 completely out of the water. That number was set under Childress as well in 2009 when he guided this team to 37 wins. That year they once again got to the post-season and had 9.5 strikeouts per 9 innings which was seventh nationally and lead the Big 12 again.

Childress has always been a good coach, but finally recognized in 2008 as the best in the conference winning the Big 12's Coach of the Year by his peers in 2008. His group of young men won 46 games that year and were the champs of the regular-season in conference for the first time in nine years and won the first back to back NCAA regional championship in his school's history. He just keeps setting records and was setting conference records there, so what will he do in the SEC? This is a great team to put up against the likes of Arkansas, LSU, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and a host of other powerhouses in SEC baseball.

Childress completely turned this program around so there's no doubt he can make it compete in the SEC. They will come in gunning for the top dogs and doing what they do best, striking batters out all the time any time. Childress is a great coach who deserves a lot of respect along with his team.
