SEC Football Week 12 Review
As we get to the homestretch in the SEC, there is still a lot to be decided, and nothing brings more excitement to getting things sorted out than rivalry week. With the exception of Vanderbilt, every team in the SEC plays a bitter rival. It really is a great way to put a cap on the 2010 regular season.
Before we get to what is about to go down on Saturday, let’s look at the week that was…
Alabama 63 – Georgia State 7
Remember the time Road Warriors beat the crap out of the Mulky Brothers in the Jim Crocket Sr. Memorial Cup tag team wrestling tournament? No? Well, I didn’t think so, but that’s just what this game reminded me of. I won’t waste your time with a recap; suffice to say that whoever agreed to this mismatch needs to be kicked in the jimmies for putting this game on the schedule.
Florida 48 – Appalachian State 10
Hey, Florida found an offense. Hey, too bad the season is over…
LSU 43 – Ole Miss 36
In one of the most exciting games in the SEC season, LSU kept their BCS hopes alive by coming back to beat Ole Miss in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers trailed 36-35 with less than five minutes to play, but Stevan Ridley's third touchdown with :44 gave them the lead. Patrick Patterson’s interception sealed the deal.
I talked to my Bayou Bud, “Bonecrusher” Busch, who told me, “I guess I like that Miles guy a little better now.” He thought about it for a few seconds, then added, “Nah, I take it back. He’s a pecker head.”
Tennessee 24 – Vanderbilt 10
In a nice turnaround to their season, Tennessee moved closer to a possible bowl game with a sloppy 14 point win over Vanderbilt. This one would have been worse, but the Vols shot themselves in the foot more times than Barney Fife.
With nine penalties for 75 yards, it is a wonder the Vols could do anything right. Their only saving grace was they were playing Vanderbilt.
However, if they have a repeat performance on Saturday, their centuries old winning streak against Kentucky will waive buh-bye.
Arkansas 38 Mississippi State 31 (2OT)
This one had more fireworks than a night out with Charlie Sheen as both teams combined for 974 yards of offense in the Razorbacks double overtime victory.
The win was the 'Backs 11th in their last 12 meetings against the Bulldogs.
Ryan Mallett finished with 305 passing yards and three touchdowns, and his 7-yard touchdown pass to Knile Davis proved to be the difference.
South Carolina 69 – Troy 24
Carolina got the tune up game they needed before playing Clemson as they routed Troy in Columbia. The 'Cocks were up 56-7 at the half and put to rest any thoughts of another letdown after a huge victory (See: Kentucky loss), as well as put to rest anyone still around for the second half.
Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky had the week off.
