This bowl used to be called the Papa John's Bowl. However, it now is called the BBVA Compass Bowl. This year the bowl will be played on January 8, 2011 between the Kentucky Wildcats and the Pitt Panthers. Check out our Kentucky Wildcats vs Pittsburgh Panthers Bowl Preview.

Most of the time that you spend in Birmingham when you travel there for the Papa John's Bowl will probably revolve around football. Whether it be the time you spend at the game, the time you spend getting ready for the game, the time you spend tailgating before the game, or the time you spend recovering FROM the game. However, despite the football frenzy that you will be engulfed in, there still just may be a few moments here and again in which you decide that it's time to take a break from the pigskin, and partake in another activity. And Birmingham has a wide range of activities to choose from.

If the family is along for the trip, why not provide them with something, just a little something, educational at least beyond the inevitable math lessons and displays of sportsmanship found at the game. This struggle is seen by many as a microcosm of the efforts by African-Americans across the nation during the time, and as such, is representative of so much more bcri.org.
