2012 Arkansas Razorbacks Football Preview

Sorry Razorback fans, it looks to be a long 2013 in Fayetteville. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel (think 2014 and 2015....). Here's our 2013 Arkansas Razorbacks Football Preview.

2011 SEC Record: 6-2 (3rd SEC West) – Overall 11-2

Returning starters: 7 offense, 6 defense, 3 special teams

The Good: These guys have a potent offense. QB Tyler Wilson is back and will hand the ball off to stud running backs Dennis Johnson, Ronnie Wingo Jr. They trio will also be joined by Knile Davis, who returns after a broken ankle sidelined him in 2011. Davis rushed for over a 1,000 yards in 2010.

The Bad: Who will Wilson throw the ball to? The top returning wide receiver only had 34 catches last year. Didn’t USC’s Alshon Jeffery have that many catches against Clemson last November? The offensive and defensive lines are so bad, they might do better to create cardboard cutouts of the players and line them up across from the other team.

The Ugly: Bobby Petrino pulling an Evil Knievel in the spring. The guy is a weasel (Google search 2007 Atlanta Falcons), but unfortunately for Hogs fans, he had them at ready to challenge Alabama and LSU for SEC West supremacy, and if you saw the final rankings last year, national supremacy. Now, due to his lack of character and knowledge of motorcycles, all of that has vanished.

The Schedule: Not too bad as the out of conference slate is a joke and some of the in conference games are even funnier as Ken-Yucky and Ole Miss will play the Hogs in 2012.

However, the SEC slate opens with Bama and ends with LSU, and that will be tough. The good thing about that is both game are at home so that might be something to take note of.

What will happen: Too many question marks and uncertainty to give Arkansas any love in 2012. What will become of a defense that ranked 9th in the conference last year? What about an offense that focuses on the pass, and not the run? And how will the team adjust to new coach John L. Smith?

Bowl Game: I am hearing Music, and I think it’s coming from Nashville.

2012 Prediction: 4th in the SEC West.
