John McDonnel has 42 national championships to his name. He is the most dominating coach in any sport at any level in history.
Editor's Note: Thanks for the comment. You can certainly make a good point about John McDonnell. For those who don't know he is the head track and field coach at Arkansas. Great coach; great record. The one qualifier I did put in the article is that the sport had to have it's national championship game on national TV. (otherwise, we'd be arguing about some pee wee league coach somewhere with 10,000 wins...)
Anyway, not sure Track and Field has its national championships on national TV. At least I've never seen it.
Also, there is a big difference between coaching a team sport and an individual one like track. A track coach is more of a trainer than a strategist .
But, certainly John McDonnell is a great coach.
