Michigan State vs Georgia Preview
Outback Bowl
Michigan State and Georgia will be playing for pride in a good old fashioned grind it out type of game with two of the best defenses in the country. Michigan State narrowly lost the conference championship and Georgia lost to LSU in the SEC championship as they played strong for a while, but just faded later and got blown away by a athletically superior team. These are two historically good teams and they can play with the best of them. They are both well coached and they certainly will not fail under the pressure. Both of these teams will show up to play. This will be a great game to watch if you like the defensive struggle style of games.
Michigan State can certainly throw with Cousins having a great year throwing for over 3,000 yards and 24 touchdowns. They don't have a thousand yard rusher4 but Bell is close and he has 11 touchdowns. They can plane get it into the endzone, but they will be challenged by this Georgia defense who is used to playing against speedy receivers and tough runners in a talent heavy SEC. Cunningham for Michigan State is perhaps one of the most talented wide receivers in the country. He has come down with 72 catches and over 1200 yards. He has 12 catches for scores as well. They have other weapons to throw to that can take pressure off of him as well that make them very dangerous.
Murray has emerged for Georgia this year throwing for over 2800 yards and 33 touchdowns. He took the SEC by surprised and if not for the emergence of Arkansas' Tyler Wilson he would have been all SEC first team. Murray struggled in the championship game and was probably judged harshly, but will grow and next year looks to be great. Crowell runs the ball serviceably, but they really need to be able to get that passing game going to get the type of offense on the board to win the game. As far as who will be catching the ball, they pretty much spread the ball out and try to find the open man. Georgia is a dangerous team if you catch them on a day the receivers are catching the ball. That can be their problem is the core of receivers. They have no main target and need to develop one. The defense will have to step up or Cousins will drive the ball all over the field. Cousins is too good and too seasoned for Georgia if they don't come to play better than they did against LSU.
Georgia certainly has a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. Most of it is unproven in post-season play, however. I think that they have a chance in this game, but Michigan State is a great team with a lot of pride and even more so, they played Wisconsin so close in the conference game and with what happened to Georgia I think the spirits of the two teams makes it Michigan St. 35 over Georgia 21.
