Georgia Bulldogs vs. UCF Knights Preview

2011 AutoZone Liberty Bowl

Georgia Bulldogs vs. UCF Knights

UCF won the Conference USA, beating SMU 17-7. Southern Methodist isn’t exactly a football powerhouse, so make of that what you will.

The Knights success this year was undeniable as they were solid on both sides of the ball and finished 10-3. They will be tested by Georgia in this bowl game though. UCF hasn’t faced an offensive player like Georgia receiver A.J. Green all season and stopping the future NFL wide out will be a problem.

Once Green came back after missing the first four games of the season, Aaron Murray began to flourish. UCF has a defense that can hold down the likes of SMU to seven points, but don't count on them doing it against Georgia.

Prediction: Georgia over UCF

Independence Bowl: Georgia vs. Central Florida (UCF)
by: LJ

This is a match-up between two opposites this season. Georgia started the season with SEC Championship aspirations, but they ended up starting 1-4 after their star player, AJ Green, was suspended for selling one of his jerseys for profit. The Bulldogs’ defense also had its fair share of holes, as the new 3-4 defense does not have the players in place yet to compete at a high level.

Central Florida is the opposite of Georgia; it went from a middle of the pack team to a 10-3 championship team. UCF was even ranked in the Top 25 at one point in the season, and they are chomping at the bit to get a shot at an SEC team. Georgia has the superior athletes to win this one, but they will have to play for their pride if they want to do so.

Jeffrey Godfrey Will Have a HUGE Game and Central Florida Will Win
by: CFB FAN

The Autozone Liberty Bowl has a chance to be a really great game. I like Central Florida's chances against the Georgia Bulldogs. Most SEC fans seem to think that once the game is scheduled, the SEC has won. But that is why they play the game.

Georgia is a middling SEC team, from the weaker SEC Eastern division, looking to avoid a losing record. AJ Green played against Colorado which was a Georgia loss. Georgia cannot just show up and win.

Central Florida is better than that. The Golden Knights are one of the top non-BCS teams in the nation. Additionally, Conference USA is underrated. George O'Leary is a top notch coach. He is doing it again at Central Florida after having great success at Georgia Tech. One wonders what would have happened at Notre Dame over the years if O'Leary had not had to bow out of that job.

Georgia is well aware of the talent base in Florida and Central Florida is getting their share. Check out Jeffrey Godfrey, a true freshman quarterback who started most of the season for Central Florida. He is small in stature, but huge in talent. He has a very big time arm and is highly mobile. He is a gamer.

Sure, the Golden Knights are up against it against the SEC talent, big bucks, and strength of schedule. Georgia should be better than Central Florida and should win the game. But it is a case of would of, could of, should of.

Georgia also should have been better this year. Richt looked down for the count at the beginning of the year. This will be no cakewalk for the Bulldogs.

Central Florida will win the game. They have a history of putting up great efforts against BCS teams. They are in familiar territory in Memphis at the Liberty Bowl as it is conference rival Memphis' home field.

Jeffrey Godfrey is in the mold of Ty Detmer and Doug Flutie. He is a football player. He just knows how to play football. Flat. Period. End of story.
