Why has Nebraska been able to dominate the SEC for decades?

Nebraska is 19-6-1 or .750 vs. the current SEC teams.

Including:

8-2 or .800 in last 10 meetings

12-4 in bowl games

3-0 at home (Alabama, Auburn, LSU) & 1-1-1 away (Auburn, Alabama, LSU)

3-1 in National Championship Games

Undefeated against Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miss St. Tennessee.

Note: Nebraska has never played Kentucky or Vanderbilt and has not played Arkansas or South Carolina as members of SEC. If results of those games are excluded, Nebraska is 16-5-1 or .750 all-time vs. teams in the SEC. Here are the results of those games

Nebraska vs the SEC
by: Tex Noel

Good question.

Have to think about it...

In 1970s-min1990s Nebraska was dominate against most colleges, not only the SEC. The SEC, untill recently, was a predominately running conference--as Nebraska was in the Big 8/later the Big 12.

This would cause power football vs power football; but with the Cornhuskers' quicker athletes, they were able to dominate teams at-will (all but Oklahoma.)

Plus the famed "Black Shirt D" that Nebraska is known for was able to get to the ball quicker.

The SEC had only one consistent powerhouse, Alabama that could compete on Nebraska's level (not counting the 38-6 1972 Orange Bowl victory.)

This was the Cornhuskers' second of three straight wins in Miami.

Plus Nebraska would recruit all over the country; while SEC teams were content to stay in their own "backyards."

But now that recruiting has almost a year-round event and cross country searching for the best players, teams are more on an even bases.

Tex
